Our Origin
Kalvi Kendra, a Non-Profit Voluntary Organization registered under the Indian Trust Act, is based in Tamil Nadu, South India.
It was born on the bed of a man-made disaster which took place in the year 1978 with the objective of Building a Human Society through establishing Peace & Harmony. It was translated to action by providing relief and rehabilitation to the victims of the communal violence with the name Villupuram Housing Project.
History
The name Villupuram Housing Project was changed into “Kalvi Kendra” (center for education / learning) in the year 1982.
It was formally registered under the Indian Trust Act in 1988. After successful rehabilitation programs, it extended its work to uplift poor and marginalized people in the surrounding villages of Villupuram District.
At present, Kalvi Kendra is working in 430 villages in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Union Territory with Humanitarian projects.

Legal Status
Our uniqueness is bringing change within the existing structure in the society through the intervention of women-centered programs: formation of CBOs, Generating awareness, Building capacities, and linking with Financial Institutions & Govt. programs.
Our major role is facilitation.

Dr. S. Chinnappan
Managing TrusteeA Master Degree holder in Sociology. He is the Founder Trustee of Kalvi Kendra. He has been the Managing Trustee as well as CEO of the organisation. He has been serving for the development sector for the past 41 years.
Mr.C.Kamaraj.I.A.S., (Rtd), Secretary
TrusteeA retired IAS Officer who had been working in several departments of State and Central Govy. Especially he was the Managing Director of Aavin, the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Production organisation. He is very much interested in apply his experience to develop the Poor and Down Trodden people by using the Govt. Sponsored Programmes. Mr.C.Kamaraj.I.A.S., (Rtd), Secretary.
Mr. K.P. Kasthuri
TrusteeA Post Graduate in Economics and worked in Reserve Bank of India/NABARD for 40 years in various capacities and retired as Deputed General Manager. Has varied experience in Rural banking, Micro Finance and General Banking. Was an International consultant on Micro Finance and did consultants for Tamil Nadu Women Development Corporation, Disaster Management etc.
Mrs. I. Jothi Amala
TrusteeMaster degree holder in History and Sociology. She had the experience of teaching in the school. She has been actively involved in women liberation. She has attended International Conference and meetings on women rights. She is also founder of a grass root NGO called WIDA.
Mr. C.R.M Sandeep
TrusteeHe is a graduate with an M.Com from the esteemed Loyola University. He serves as a financial consultant for Kalvikendra. He provides financial literacy training to marginalized entrepreneurs identified by Kalvikendra, enabling them to build sustainable businesses. He additionally educates women SHGs how to keep an accounting of their collective endeavors.
